Sharon Update June 1, 2010 Just to keep everybody up to date Sharon Diebel, our volunteer coordinator, had brain surgery on April 29, 2010 to combat a Clival Chordoma brain tumor. She was originally diagnosed in 2004 and had surgery at that time, so this was her second surgery for the same slow growing tumor. Those of you who are around Sharon will know that her speech and balance had been deteriorating over the past 6 months or more. What you may not have been quite so aware of was the same symptoms impeded her ability to swallow, making eating and drinking a challenge as well. It has been a long and slow recovery but the surgery was very successful and she is already regaining much of her speech and balance and is looking forward to eating again or having her favorite Chai tea! She is scheduled to be released from the Neurological Rehab Center at St Joseph’s Hospital on Tuesday, June 8th and I am sure it won’t be too long before she will be active with adoptions. Kari |
