| Ok you want to adopt now what?
Arizona Adopt A Greyhound does all of our adoptions on Friday evening and we require that you take our educational tour as part of the adoption process. You will need to be available on Friday evening when you are ready for adoption. AAGI has an interview approval process where you will be called by two of our staff members. The first interviewer will |

| spend about 30-40 minutes giving you an idea of what to expect from a retired racing greyhound, answering any questions you might have and making sure you and your family are committed to a long term relationship. She will also be discussing the expectations your household has in a pet, other pets in the household, your choice of male or female and if you have a color preference. Not sure what color you would like with 18 official colors it can be confusing. Check out the Official Color Chart to get an idea of the various colors. She will also gather pertinent data like addresses, places of employment, phones, etc. She will explain our adoption tour and the adoption fee.
She will also visit with you in depth about what to expect and the sorts or things you should do to prepare for your new pet -- crates, dog doors, baby gates, etc. She goes into detail about caring for your greyhound and will schedule you for the tour of Phoenix Greyhound Park (see map if you need directions)on a Friday evening, at which time your adoption may also be completed. Except for unusual circumstances or requests most adoptions can be completed within a week. The information she gathers will be used by the second interviewer in matching you to an appropriate greyhound. We have between 50-60 greyhounds looking for homes at all times and therefore do not let adopters pick their own dog. Our director, Kari Morrison Young, does the matching and will call you the week of your adoption to discuss specific greyhounds that she feels will fit your household. From those you will choose the greyhound we will have waiting for you on Friday night! We will exchange a placed greyhound if it appears to have been a bad match. If you still have some reservations or would like more information, you are welcome to come take the adoption tour before finalizing your adoption. The tour takes about 1-1/2 hours and gives you an overview of the life of a racing greyhound and the sort of life your new pet has lived before his retirement. |
