| Coursing season runs from Mid-October through Mid-March.
Keep in mind this sport is only for those greyhounds who have been retired for 6 months or less or who have been kept in top physical condition by running for exercise, have remained within a pound or two of their racing weight and are less than 6-years old. The greyhound is the only sighthound that will run its heart out if you ask it to. Field trials may be held under both American Sighthound Field Association (ASFA) and American Kennel Club (AKC) rules. You need to be prepared to compete under either guidelines. National Greyhound Association (NGA) registered dogs can compete in ASFA field trials but not AKC trials. In order to compete under AKC rules you will need to acquire an AKC Indefinite Listing Privilege (ILP) number. Call AKC at 919-233-9767 or go to their website for information on how to apply. |
