AAGI Future June 1, 2010 The hot Phoenix summer is upon us and that always means a slow down in adoptions but we continue to send out 2-4 dogs each Friday and that is always a good thing. We are still housed in the paddock at PGP and will remain there for the indefinite future. As long as the corporation (Delaware North) maintains a presence on the property we can stay – and at this point they have no definite plans for pulling out. For those of you who are concerned about the condition of the property (weeds, etc) please try to turn a blind eye. It is actually a planned appearance so that the corporate management doesn’t get the impression that 4 people can maintain the property for when they are able to re-open. Call it a job protection plan. And, although there is nothing to report everybody continues to feel that racinos are still a possibility. I am encouraged by the fact that Delaware North continues to spend money, both at the facility and for lawyer/lobby-est types at the legislature. The biggest bottle-neck at this point appears to be coming from the horse race industry, who are not being very cooperative in the effort. Our biggest change has been the closing of our kennel. It was just too costly to maintain without the grant money we had received in the past. We will operate with just foster homes for now, allowing us to keep an inventory of about 25-30 dogs. As dogs are placed we will bring in 2 or 3 new dogs from Tucson at a time. A slower pace for us but we will still remain a large and active program. Please continue to contact your legislators (see other link) and let them know you would be in favor of supporting racinos as a alternative source of income to supplement the sales tax and prevent further cuts in services. Thanx a always for you encouragement and support in service to the hounds Kari |
