Arizona Adopt A Greyhound

Arizona Adopt A Greyhound is proud to be one of the nation’s largest Greyhound Adoption agencies. When racing was still live at Phoenix Greyhound Park, we happily placed between 400 and 500 of these gentle greyhounds are 45 MPH couch potatoescreatures into wonderful homes each year. A small dedicated staff and lots of hard working volunteers have made AAGI the successful program it still is today.

With the, hopefully temporary, close of racing in Phoenix we have closed our kennel and are keeping all of our dogs at this time in foster homes. The economy has also slowed adoptions but we continue to place 1-2 dogs each week. And, hope as the summer draws to a close that we will be able to return to 4-5 per week instead.

We have former kennel owners who would still like us to take their dogs, plus the ever returnig stream of dogs coming back for divorces, deaths, moves or finances. There will continue to be dogs available for adoption!!

Arizona Adopt A Greyhound is pleased and proud to continue to be associated with Phoenix Greyhound Park. PGP’s generosity allows us to still have a permanent location in the paddock building for our adoptions, retail store, nail clinics and spas plus our Annual Picnic in November.

Under Construction

The AAGI website is under construction and could be changing right before your eyes. But it is a work inn process so some things might not be working as well as we hoped and some areas will take a little tweaking — your patience is appreciated!!

In Memory Of …

Sharon Sue Diebel (August 23, 1946 – August 17, 2010). Sharon was the Volunteer Coordinator for Arizona Adopt A Greyhound for

Sharon at the AAGI Christmas Party 2009

12 years and will be greatly missed.

She passed away after a 6 year battle with a Chordoma Brain Tumor but continued to be dedicated to greyhound adoption until the end.

AAGI was blessed to host her Memorial Service at our adoption center where not only the people who loved her but the hounds she loved were able to attend. There was a great Celebration at the Rainbow Bridge when she crossed over!

In addition to her human family, Sharon left her four Greyhound children. AAGI will be placing them in new loving homes in the near future.

Dog Days of Summer

Hi Hound Families –

Thank you for all of your generosity helping Arizona Adopt A Greyhound with our summer time struggle. I have been just amazed at the the number of people who have helped out with donations both large and small. I can’t begin to tell you how grateful we are. AAGI is really struggling to make it through the Dog Days of Summer this year. August and September have always been our slowest time and this year is especially bad.

Normally in July, August & September we limp along with 2-4 adoptions each week. This year we have been doing 1 adoption a week with some weeks where we haven’t had any. It is just a factor of the economy.

So we are struggling to feed and care for the dogs we have in the program and the return dogs that we keep getting in. And now we are going to beg for a little help.

For those who had not seen our plea, or have not had a chance to contribute, we plan to keep this campaign open through September.

You can donate in 2 ways – on-line (which has the advantage of going straight to our account) or by mail – the on-line link is –

Online Dog Day donation

or you can mail to:

An extra thank you by the way to those of you who have us on a regular monthly donation.

We are grateful or your help – and so are the hounds –
